The importance of data security when choosing a software provider

Data security is a given with most companies, in the sense that companies are legally bound by the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR. Believe it or not, these are two separate things.

The Data Protection Act 2018 controls how organisations, businesses, or the government use personal information. The Act was updated to incorporate GDPR, the new EU law on data protection and privacy for individuals from the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA).

However, if you are looking for a software provider or developer, the situation is different. You are in their hands when it comes to the security of your data. It’s important to know that they develop their applications with data security at the forefront of what they do. Whilst for areas such as the NHS and the Health & Social Care sector this is critical, it’s the same for organisations who collect, store, and share your data. When choosing such a provider, it’s important to know and trust that your organisation’s data will be safe.

At Asckey quality and security are not just what we do, it’s who we are. We have policies and processes in place to reassure our clients that they can put their trust in Asckey. To support this, Asckey is ISO 27001 accredited and all our applications, along with our internal processes, adhere to this accreditation.

ISO Accreditations

ISO 27001 is the international standard that provides a framework for Information Security Management Systems (ISMS). The framework provides continued confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information as well as legal compliance.

The ISO standard includes a process-based approach to initiating, implementing, operating, and maintaining our ISMS.

To support this accreditation, we are also ISO 9001 accredited. This certification is for Quality Management. It provides the basis for processes and people to deliver an effective product or service time after time.

Our ISO accreditations are audited independently on an annual basis. This means that processes are embedded in every aspect of our business. We are always monitoring the performance of the business and identifying opportunities to improve.

What about security for hosting?

Some of the applications we currently host range from patient pathway management and public health referral schemes down to in-house domestic and facility management systems. Some of our clients also develop software applications for the health and social care marketplace. They then look to us to provide their customers with secure and reliable access to their applications via the HSCN network.

As well as the aforementioned accreditations, we use a Tier-3 rated Data Centre to support hosting requirements. A Tier-3 rated Data Centre is a location with redundant and dual-powered servers, storage, network links, and other IT components. Here, IT components are powered with multiple, active and independent sources of power and cooling resources.

Most of our clients, across all our applications, have been with us for over 3 years. We have grown as they have grown and we regularly review our offering so we can continue to meet their needs.

So, whether it’s bespoke development or hosting, you can trust that you are in safe hands with Asckey.
